Ingredients


FOR THE SESAME CRUSTED TOFU

1 BLOCK FIRM TOFU, SLICED LONGWAYS ABOUT 3CM THICK

2 TSP BLACK SESAME SEEDS

2 TSP WHITE SESAME SEEDS

2 TBSP CORN OR RICE FLOUR

2 EGG WHITES, WHISKED TOGETHER

1/2 CUP VEGETABLE OIL, FOR SHALLOW FRYING

FOR THE DRESSING

1/2 OF THE GARLIC

1/2 OF THE GINGER

1/2 OF THE RED CHILLI

1 TBSP TAMARI

JUICE OF 2 LIMES

FOR THE VEGETABLES

1 HEAD BROCCOLI

1 CUP MUSHROOMS OF CHOICE, I USED PORTOBELLO SLICED LONGWAYS

2 GARLIC CLOVES, MINCED

1 KNOB GINGER, GRATED

1 RED CHILLI, DE-SEEDED & FINELY CHOPPED

SHARP KNIVES

MEDIUM FRY PAN

SMALL SAUCEPAN OR ANOTHER FRY PAN FOR SHALLOW FRYING


Method


  1. PREPARE THE STIR FRY INGREDIENTS AND SET ASIDE

  2. MIX THE DRESSING INGREDIENTS TOGETHER IN A SMALL RAMEKIN AND SET ASIDE

  3. IN ONE BOWL MIX THE FLOUR WITH THE SESAME SEEDS AND IN ANOTHER WHISK THE EGGS

  4. AFTER STRAINING THE TOFU FROM ITS PACKAGING AND DRAINING EXCESS LIQUID, CUT INTO SLICES LONGWAYS. DIP EACH PIECE IN THE EGG FIRST, COAT IN THE SESAME MIX AND SET ON A PLATE. REPEAT WITH REMAINING PIECES

  5. ONCE FINISHED, POUR VEGETABLE OIL INTO A DEEPISH FRY PAN OR SMALL SAUCEPAN AND HEAT UNTIL IT BUBBLES WHEN YOU PLACE A CHOPSTICK IN THE OIL, TOUCHING THE BASE OF THE PAN

  6. HEAT ANOTHER FRY PAN OVER MEDIUM HEAT. ADD A SPLASH OF SESAME OIL. ADD REMAINING GARLIC, CHILLI AND GINGER, SAUTÉING FOR A FEW MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN. ADD BROCCOLI FLORETS AND HALF OF THE DRESSING

  7. SIMMER UNTIL IT BEGINS TO SOFTEN

  8. PLACE THE TOFU PIECES IN THE OIL TO SHALLOW FRY FOR 3-4 MINUTES BEFORE FLIPPING AND FRYING FOR AN ADDITIONAL FEW MINUTES

  9. ADD MUSHROOMS AND REMAINING DRESSING, SAUTÉING FOR ANOTHER FEW MINUTES

  10. REMOVE TOFU FROM OIL AND PLACE ON A CHOPPING BOARD. TURN OFF FRY PAN VEG ARE IN

  11. DIVIDE VEGGIES BETWEEN BOWLS, ADDING TOFU WEDGES. TOP WITH WHATEVER YOU LIKE, I ADDED FRIED SHALLOTS & CHILLI OIL. ENJOY !
