Easter Eats

Easter is rolling around yet again! It’s a time of year, loved by many. A good chance to relax. And well, of course, EAT!

From Easter Egg hunting to eating our bodyweight in Chocolate, oven warmed Hot Cross Buns and more. There are so many reasons to get excited about food this Easter!

If you’re planning family catch ups, long festive lunches or searching for some fresh inspiration of what to eat this Easter- I thought I’d put something together. Curated for you, considered by me.

Think of it, as a foodie’s delight. A moodboard, a menu, a source of inspiration. Take from it what you will… but here’s a little insight into what I’ll be eating this Easter.

Hot Cross Buns

Fluffy, fruit, buttery, buttery delight! I don’t think there is anything better than a fresh Hot Cross Bun when you wake up on Good Friday.

Whether you’re baking fresh yourself, or picking up from your local bakery- warm whole in the oven for 20 minutes on 160 before spreading a thick slab of butter. Delish!

The secret to fluffy, fabulous homemade Hot Cross Buns? A good quality yeast, stand mixer and mixed dried fruits, such as apricot, sultanas and/or currants for a sweet touch of gooey goodness.

Chocolate Eggs

No decision towards moderation should be made around Easter. Whether you’re a Cadbury, Lindt or Haighs (my personal favourite) chocolate person, grab yourself an egg, or five, and savour slowly for the utmost enjoyment.

If you’re not looking to over indulge then hollow eggs are the way to go. To enjoy a little something more, whole bunnies or large eggs are what you might like to entertain.

Blue Cheese

An afternoon cheese platter never goes astray around Easter. The perfect Easter addition to your platter is your leftover Hot Cross Buns and a quality Blue Cheese.

The soft and creamy texture, characterised by a sharp and piquant flavour, pairs perfectly when paired with the sweet taste and gooey texture of the Easter Buns.

Roast Lamb

A common addition to many celebrations around the world. An Easter Sunday must! You’ll find a whole array of recipes that feature different flavour pairings, herbs, spices and more.

You’ll find me keeping it simple! Think whole garlic, rosemary, lemon zest, juice and olive oil- rubbed all over, prepped preferably the night prior before roasting.

Slow roast with onion, carrots, garlic and anything else you desire and watch the lamb fall off the bone! Delicious.

Caramelised Onion Tarte

In my opinion, no Easter is complete without a little bit of puff pastry! Combined with fragrant, flavourful caramelised onion and you have yourself a crowd pleased.

A tart is super versatile and can be served for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

For my recipe, the ingredients look a little like…

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • 2 red onions, thickly sliced lengthways

  • 3 garlic clove, thinly sliced

  • 2 tbsp caster sugar

  • 1 1/2 tbsp red wine vinegar

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed

  • 2 tbsp Meredith’s goats feta, crumbled

There is so much more that I could share, but I might just overwhelm myself and YOU with too much choice! So- enjoy Easter and happy eating.
