Seriously good seasonal selects

Frosty mornings are upon us and daylight savings is dead *cries*. But there is no need to be sad. There are SO many reasons to be excited about seasonal produce and food that slaps, for the soul. Well, because, don’t tell me you’re not craving soups, stews, stir frys and saucy ass pastas [insert fire and red wine].

Nothing makes me more excited than speaking about new and exciting ways to work with winter produce!  Both fruit and veg, there are so many ingredients that pack a punch when it comes to flavour and work so well in combination with one another.

If you’re after some inspiration of how to use some of the seasons winning Winter produce, then look no further because i’ve got a few firecrackers to put forwards.

Fruits

Rhubarb

She’s vibrant, very tasty and oh, so versatile! Not one to be boxed in [think well beyond usage in sweets/desserts] Rhubarb roasts up to perfection, exploding with flavour and is a great addition to salads, soups and your classic sweet treats.

Grapefruit

With a distinctive tarty flavour [that can put some off ] I promise it’ll be worth circling back around, because used in the right amount and with the right flavour combinations, this is an ingredient that will have you thinking of it as the hero!

Think, freshly squeezed and added to your fresh dressings, marinades and cocktail mixers to salads and sweets.

Vegetables

Eggplants

Eggplants are underrated. Case closed. These can be used as a key ingredient in so many styles of cooking and cuisines. They aren’t too distinctive in flavour or texture, which adds to their versatility. Think miso glazed eggplants, baba ghanoush [eggplant dip], moussaka and much, much more! If you’re looking for a way to consume less meat and experiment with interesting ingredients, I promise eggplant won’t let you down.

Leeks

Need depth to your meal and a fresh pop of flavour? Think Leeks. From the garlic, chives, shallots and onions family, they’re a sweet, oniony flavour that is a perfect addition to soups, stews, pastas and more. Intro, a new and interesting way to indulge. Braised leeks. Cooked on a skillet and served as you please, enjoy the emerging sweet, succulent flavour.
